Philanthropy vs Charity

Hello there

I am a Philanthropist and there's a good chance you could be one too. If you go to university about Philanthropy, you probable know much more about philanthropy then I do. However by the definition of Philanthropy, I am a philanthropist and you may be one too.

Philanthropy is the study of how to make things better for humanity by increasing the quality of life. Philanthropy can be charity and charity can be philanthropy but they aren't always the same. Charity vs Philanthropy is kinda like that saying "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a life time." Say for example, you see a starving man so you give him some food that is charity. Philanthropy would be searching for a way to make it so that man will never starve again. Both of these things are good. If you share food with the man you give him more time, to survive until a solution to his problem can be found.

A lot of people who use food banks also volunteer at the food banks so they are actually working for their food. Volunteering also teaches them work skills and can be used on on a resume so that can help them find employment. Often times charities that offer food banks also offer job search resources. So there you have charity and philanthropy.
